Baba Dessert Recipe
Baba dessert is a classical Turkish dessert. Learn how to make baba dessert with this easy and delicious step-by-step baba dessert recipe from Turkish Chefs.
- 1 egg,
- 1 teacup of vegetable oil (110 ml.),
- Baking powder (10 grams),
- Vanilla (5 grams),
- 1 teacup of yogurt (110 ml.),
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour (the cup size is 200 ml.).
For its syrup;
- 3 cups of granulated sugar,
- 3 cups of water (600 ml.),
- 1 teaspoon of lemon zest.
How to make Baba Dessert?
For the baba dessert dough, put the eggs, oil, yogurt and vanilla in a deep bowl and stir well. Add 2 cups of flour gradually and knead the dough until it turns soft and elastic.
Take walnut-sized pieces from the dough and roll them with the palm of your hand. Place them into tiny paper molds. Place the molds in the oven tray and cook them in a preheated to 180°C oven until they are golden brown.
While the desserts are cooking, make its syrup. Put the sugar, water and lemon zest into a deep bowl and stir until the sugar dissolve. (don’t boil it)
Remove the desserts from the oven. Then place them into the syrup and turn them several times, allowing them to soak up the syrup. They will swell and absorb most of the syrup. Take out and place them into the tray. Pour the syrup left on desserts. Leave them to cool at room temperature.
When they get cool enough, you can decorate your desserts how you like and serve.
