Ingredients;

To prepare the meatballs;

  • 400 grams ground beef
  • 1 onion (grated),
  • 1 egg,
  • A half teacup of breadcrumbs,
  • 1 pinch of parsley,
  • Salt,
  • Black pepper,
  • Red crushed pepper.

For the mashed potato;

  • 4 potatoes,
  • 2 tablespoons of butter,
  • 1 cup milk.

For the bechamel sauce;

  • 2 cups of milk,
  • 2 tablespoons of butter,
  • 1 tablespoon of all purpose flour,
  • Salt.

For the top;

  • Grated cottage cheese

Process of Baked Meatballs with Mashed Potato Recipe

First, boil the potatoes and mash them.
Add the butter and mix them (If you want, you can add some salt).
Then pour the milk slowly and stir.

Put the ground beef in a deep bowl and add the grated onion, egg, finely chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper and the breadcrumbs.
And mix them by using your hands, knead.
Take walnut sized pieces from it and roll in your palm.
Fry the rolled meatballs in the vegetable oil.

To prepare the bechamel sauce, melt the butter.
Add the flour and stir until bubbly. Don’t let the flour darken or burn.
Turn the heat to low, add the milk slowly and continue to stir, finally add the salt and whisk until smooth.
And continue whisking until the mixture scalds and begins to thicken. Don’t let it boil. Continue until you have a smooth, white sauce.

Spread the mashed potatoes into a large square pyrex.
Place the fried meatballs on the mashed potatoes and pour the bechamel sauce on them.
Bake the dish into the preheated oven to 180°C until the top starts to get golden.
Then sprinkle some grated cottage cheese on it and bake again until it gets golden brown.

After baking, slice and serve.

If you slice the when it gets warm, it is easier to serve.

Serving the meatballs with mashed potato with a pilaf gives you wonderful results.
