Cookies in Syrup Recipe
Try the sweet and tender cookies with your cup of coffee or espresso or serve them after dinner to your guests. These cookies in syrup are delicious and different!
For the dough;
- 200 ml. milk (1 cup),
- 1 cup of vegetable oil (not a full cup, leave 2 cm empty),
- 1 egg,
- 10 grams of baking powder (1 packet),
- 1 coffee spoon of instant yeast,
- 1 coffee spoon of granulated sugar,
- 3,5 cups and a tablespoon of all purpose flour,
- 1,5 tablespoon of cocoa powder (to make cocoa dough).
For the filling;
- Crushed walnut or hazelnut (optional).
For the syrup;
- 4 cups of granulated sugar,
- 4,5 cups of water,
- 1 – 2 drops of lemon juice.
The cup size is 200 ml.
Process of Cookies in Syrup Recipe
Firstly, to prepare the cookies in syrup dough, combine all the ingredients except for the flour, yeast and baking powder.
Then add the baking powder, yeast and add the 3 cups of flour and knead.
Add also the flour left by controlling the dough.
Get a soft but not sticky dough.
Divide the dough in 5 pieces and roll them in your palm.
Combine the cocoa powder with one of the dough pieces and knead.
If you add a tablespoon of milk while combining the cocoa with the dough, you can knead easily.
Divide the cocoa dough in 4 pieces and roll them in your palm.
4 small cocoa dough pieces and 4 more dough pieces without cocoa are ready.
Cover them with a clean cloth and leave for 30 minutes.
To prepare the syrup, boil the water and the sugar.
Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves.
When it starts to boil, add the lemon juice and boil for more 5 minutes over low heat.
Then turn off the stove and leave it to get warm.
Roll out one of the bigger dough piece on a lightly floured surface by sprinkling some flour on and under the dough by using a rolling pin.
Then roll out the dough again but this time use thin rolling pin to make the dough thinner.
Sprinkle some crushed hazelnut or walnut.
Then roll one of the cocoa dough, make the dough a long roll and place it on one of the edge of the rolled out dough and roll it.
Slice the roll in 2 cm thickness.
Press lightly on the slices with your fingers.
Continue with the rest of the dough.
Then place them into a greased tray by leaving some space between each one of them.
Bake the cookies in syrup in the oven at 180°C until they get lightly brown.
After baking, take them out from the oven and pour the syrup on (the cookies are hot, the syrup is warm).
After the cookies absorb the syrup, serve.
