Homemade Potato Bagels Recipe

Once you taste these potato bagels, you will be the fan of them or if you’re already a bakery fan, don’t you try to do things like this in your home.

For the dough;

  • 2 egg whites (egg yolks are for the top),
  • 1 cup of warm water (200 ml.),
  • 1 cup of mineral water (200 ml.),
  • 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar,
  • 1 cup of vegetable oil (200 ml.),
  • 1 coffee spoon of salt,
  • 10 grams of instant yeast (1 packet),
  • 6 1/2 cups of all purpose flour (the cup is 200 ml.).

To brush;

  • 100 grams butter (at the room temperature).

For the filling;

  • 2-3 potatoes,
  • 1 flick crushed red pepper,
  • 1 flick black pepper,
  • Dry mint,
  • Salt.

For the top;

  • Egg yolk,
  • Sesame seeds,
  • Black cumin seeds.

Process of Homemade Potato Bagels Recipe

To prepare the homemade potato bagels dough, except for the yeast and the flour, combine the other ingredients in a deep bowl.
Add the yeast and add the flour slowly and knead.
Get a soft and sticky dough.
Cover the dough and leave it to rise for an hour.

To prepare the filling, peel the potatoes and chop in bite size.
Boil them into salty water until they get tender.
When they get tender enough, drain then and mash them by using a fork while they are still hot.
Then add the spices and mix and leave it to cool.

Divide the dough into 16 pieces and roll them in your palm.
Roll out the pieces lengthwise by using a rolling pin on a plain surface.
Brush the butter on the rolled dough and place some of the potato filling on the long edge.
Then roll it up till the other end. Make the rolled dough longer by rolling back and forth.
After making the roll longer, turn the beginning of the dough and the end of the dough to opposite sides.
Give the spiral shape and use the same procedure for the left dough.

Place the shaped dough in to a greased tray and brush egg yolk and sprinkle some sesame seeds and black cumin seeds on them.
Leave them in the tray to rise for 15 minutes and bake them in the preheated oven at 180°C until they get golden brown.
After baking, serve the homemade potato bagels hot.
