Rose Shaped Gullac Dessert Recipe
It is a dessert made with milk syrup instead of the water syrup from Ottoman culture. This simple and easy dessert is made from gullac sheets. You may think that they are similar to phyllo sheets, but these are totally different. Gullac sheets are so white, thin and crispy. They are simply made of corn starch, wheat flour and water.
7 gullac leaves.
For the syrup;
- 1 liter milk,
- 1,5 cups of granulated sugar,
- 1 packet of vanilla (5 grams).
For the filling;
- Crushed hazelnut or walnut.
Process of Rose Shaped Gullac Dessert Recipe
Firstly, to prepare the syrup, put the milk, sugar and vanilla in a pot and stir it occasionally.
Heat the syrup but not boil (It shouldn’t be too hot to touch).
Cut the gullac leaves in half by using a kitchen scissors.
Pour 1 or 2 ladles of milk into a large tray .
Place the gullac leaf in it (the bright side should be up).
Pour 1 or 2 ladles of milk on it press lightly on the leaf by using your hands and make the leaves absorb the milk.
Pour the milk in the tray that isn’t absorbed by the leaves in to the pot again to prevent the leaves from getting melt.
When the leaves get tender enough ,sprinkle some crushed hazelnut or walnut on the plain edge of the leaf.
Wrap the leaf and roll it.
Then make a spiral shape and get a rose shaped gullac dessert.
Finally place it into a rectangular pyrex.
Continue with the other leaves.
At last,pour the milk left in the pot on the rose shaped desserts.
Leave the dessert in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
Decorate the dessert how you like and serve.
If the milk gets cool while making wet the leaves, heat it again.
