Shredded Kataifi in The Cup Recipe
Shredded Kataifi, along with Baklava is one of the most popular and delicious Turkish Desserts. It is made with a special type of pastry called kataifi or kadaifi.
- 500 grams kataifi,
- 125 grams of butter (melted),
- 1 teacup of vegetable oil (110 ml.),
- 1 cup of walnut (crumbled) (for filling).
For the syrup;
- 3 1/2 cups of powdered sugar,
- 3 1/2 cups of water,
- 1 pinch salt,
- A quarter lemon.
The cup size is 200 ml.
Process of the Shredded Kataifi in The Cup Recipe
For the shredded kataifi recipe, at first prepare the syrup. Mix sugar, water, salt in a pot and bring it to boil. Boil it over low heat for 20 minutes. Add in lemon juice and set aside and let it cool. (the consistency of the syrup won’t be thick)
Melt the 125 grams butter in a pan and add in the oil.
Drizzle the melted butter and the oil mixture over kataifi shreds and mix them gently with your hands to spread butter evenly. Don’t make the kataifi in very small pieces.
Take a small coffee cup (Turkish coffee cup, 50 ml.) and fill half of it with buttered kataifi. Some parts of the kataifi should be out of the cup. (After putting the filling, close the part on). Place a little crumbled walnut there. Fill the rest of the cup with shreds out of the cup pressing on them.
Grease a pyrex and flip the cup upside down in the pan. Repeat the same steps for the rest of the shreds.
Bake them into the preheated oven to 175°C until golden.
Pour the cold syrup on kataifi right after taking it from oven. Cover it with another pan or tray and let it absorb all syrup for almost 1 hour.
Decorate your dessert how you like before serving.
