Sponge Pastry Recipe
Try this easy recipe for soft Turkish breakfast sponge pastries. Your family and your friends will love them. Here is the our sponge pastry recipe.
For the dough;
- 1 cup of warm milk (200 ml.),
- 10 grams of instant yeast (1 packet),
- 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar,
- 1 cup of yogurt,
- A half cup of vegetable oil (100 ml.),
- 2 egg whites (the egg yolks are for the top),
- 1 coffee spoon of salt,
- 6 cups of all purpose flour (the cup is: 200 ml.).
For the filling;
- 1 bowl of curd cheese,
- 1 pinch of parsley.
For the top;
- Egg yolk,
- Sesame seeds.
Process of Sponge Pastry Recipe
Firstly, combine the warm milk, sugar and yeast in a bowl.
Then add the yogurt, vegetable oil, egg whites and the salt and mix them.
Add the flour slowly and knead well.
Get a soft but not sticky dough.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and cover with a clean cloth then leave it to rise for 40 minutes.
To prepare the filling, mix the cheese and the chopped parsley in a bowl.
Take mandarin size pieces from the dough and roll them in your palm.
Make the dough pieces larger by pressing slightly on them with your fingers on plain surface.
Place the fillings in the center of the dough and enclose the filling.
Press the edges together firmly and make an oval shaped pastry.
Place the pastries on a baking sheet in a tray.
The edges will be underneath.
Brush egg yolk on them and make lines on them by using a fork then sprinkle sesame on them.
Bake them in the preheated oven at 180°C until they get golden brown.
After baking, serve hot.
This sponge pastry recipe is for 19 or 20 pastries.
