Stuffed Cabbage Recipe

Try this cabbage leaves stuffed with rice, veggies and spices with lemony sauce for a side dish or healthy main dish. This stuffed cabbage recipe is easy to make and really delicious.

  • 10 leaves of cabbage.

For the filling;

  • 1 1/2 cups of rice (the cup size is 200 ml.),
  • 1 big onion,
  • 1 green pepper,
  • 1 tomato,
  • 1 coffee spoon of tomato paste,
  • 1 coffee spoon of pepper paste,
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil (or olive oil),
  • 1 coffee spoon of sumac,
  • Parsley,
  • Thyme,
  • Red pepper flakes,
  • Mint,
  • Salt,
  • 1 cup of water.

For the sauce;

  • 1 cup of water (200 ml.),
  • A half lemon juice,
  • Salt.

Process of Stuffed Cabbage Recipe

At first, boil the leaves of the cabbage in salty water and then leave them to cool.

To prepare the filling, put the chopped onion and the peppers in a pan. Add the salt and the vegetable oil and cook them by stirring until they get tender. Then add the pastes and continue to cook by stirring. Add the water and just before it absorbs the juice, turn off the stove and finally add the spices and the chopped parsley and mix well. Cover the lid and leave it for 15 minutes.

Place one leaf of the cabbage in a small bowl as 2 layered and place some filling in it and enclose the filling, cover it with the leaves. Tie up it with fresh green onion bunches and remove it from the bowl and place in a small square pyrex. Continue with the other leaves and the filling left.

Mix the lemon juice, water and salt and pour it in the pyrex.

Cover the pyrex with aluminium foil and bake it in the preheated oven at 180°C for 40 or 45 minutes. Then serve it with yogurt.

This stuffed cabbage recipe is for 10 stuffed cabbages.

If you want, you can cook the meal over the stove instead of baking.
