Prepare the syrup. Mix the sugar and water in a pot until the sugar dissolves and leave it to boil. When it starts to boil, add the lemon juice, lower the heat and simmer for more 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and leave to cool.
Prepare the dough. Mix the melted butter, vegetable oil, milk, vanilla and grated coconut in a deep bowl. Add the baking powder and add the flour gradually and knead. Knead the dough until a soft pliable dough is formed.
Take walnut sized pieces from the dough and shape them as oval. Do the same for the remaining dough and place the cookies on the tray. Make sure to leave enough space between each cookies on the baking tray, as they expand during baking. Brush the egg yolk and draw lines on them by using a fork.
Bake them in the preheated oven at 175°C until their top turn golden brown. After that, take them from the oven and leave for 2 minutes.
Pour the cool syrup onto each of the hot cookies with the help of a ladle. (The cookies are hot but the syrup is cool). Then leave them absorb the syrup. After the cookies absorb the syrup and get soft, sprinkle some grated coconut on them and serve.
